Occasionally when I’m writing things, especially about new announcements and great products, I wish that I could incorporate sound effects into my posts. You know, Beethoven’s 9th or the theme song from Rocky. On rare occasions, I really wish I could utilize the theme from the greatest TV show of all time: The A-Team.
I’m not kidding. I’m serious. I was Mr. T for Halloween when I was in the 5th grade. “I pity the fool that don’t gimme some candy!” Freckles or not, I looked convincing.
Well, mark today because it’s one of those “wish I had music” days. The Zoomi LEV site has officially launched with the first new product: The Zoomi Monterey electric bicycle. Amazingly, I had nothing to do with this new site: Sebastian just kind of sprung it on me. And here I was under the delusion that I was the genius behind Zoomi.
Somewhere in between the conversation about the latest at the Geneva Motor Show and my scamming him out of a grow light for my hydroponic tomatoes, he sprung out with “Hey, surf to zoomiworld.com and tell me what you think.”
Well, I didn’t really tell him what I thought because I didn’t want to over-pump his ego. What I did tell him was that if he’s going to debut with a product, it’d better be @#$@#%$ good.
The Zoomi Monterey Electric Bicycle

Wow, sweet. You can look at all the specs over at Zoomi World, but here’s the skinny: 350W brushless motor, a 36 volt / 13aH li-ion battery, a 33 mile range, with both pedal-assist and PAS + throttle modes.
Even though I’m technically paid to promote it, I’m going to ignore the full disclosure thing and just tell you what I think so far: SWEEEET! This is a quality bike, not the usual junk you see on a lot of sites. The price point is pretty good too ($1,499 MSRP)—especially when you look at what you get for that. I’d be hard pressed to buy the equivalent bike without the electrics for much less than that.
Lucky for me, the max rider weight is 350lbs, so I can ride this thing. You might think I’m joking, but you’d be amazed how many things a 245 pound guy at 6’3” can’t fit on. My wife’s Honda Civic, for instance.
Anyway, it’s exciting to see a great new product introduced to the EV and LEV markets and I’m glad to be a part of it. I’m even more excited to have the chance to climb on one and ride it. I’ll be sure to let you all know what I think.
The Zoomi Monterey is available today from several online dealers, including WattCycle and The Electric Vehicle Factory.
(EDITOR’S NOTE: I am proud to be able to unveil the Zoomi brand and make the Zoomi Monterey available to the public. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to make the announcement. We are currently actively looking for both online and retail storefront dealers, so if you’re in the EV retail biz and are interested in carrying our products, please contact us!)
